The Convolvulus Sabatius ‘Prime White’, a beautiful cultivar of the Mediterranean Morning Glory, is a fantastic and reliable low-growing perennial. It’s a real workhorse in the garden, known for its long flowering period and its tough, resilient nature. This plant forms a dense, mounding or trailing mat of soft, oval, grey-green leaves. From spring right through to autumn, it is covered in a spectacular display of trumpet-shaped flowers in a pristine, pure-white colour, making it a great choice to brighten up any garden bed or pot.

Caring for Your ‘Prime White’

  • Growing Conditions: This tough little plant loves a sunny spot. It thrives in full sun and is very drought-tolerant once established. It’s not fussy about soil type, as long as it is well-draining. It’s perfect for hot, dry spots in the garden where other plants might struggle.
  • Watering: Water regularly while the plant is young to help it establish a strong root system. Once settled in, it can handle long dry spells with very little water. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so be sure to let the soil dry out between waterings.
  • Feeding: This is a low-maintenance plant that doesn’t need much feeding. A light application of a slow-release, general-purpose fertiliser in spring is all that’s needed to keep it happy.
  • Pruning: To keep the plant looking neat and to encourage a fresh flush of growth, you can give it a light trim after a big flush of flowers. This will also help to maintain its compact shape.

Usage in the Garden

The ‘Prime White’ is incredibly versatile. Its dense, trailing habit makes it a brilliant groundcover for filling in gaps in a garden bed or for spilling over the edges of a retaining wall. It’s also an excellent choice for rockeries, where its beautiful flowers contrast with stones. It looks sensational in pots, window boxes, and hanging baskets on a patio or balcony.
