Spathiphyllum ‘Domino’ is a popular and decorative cultivar of the Peace Lily, prized for its striking variegated foliage. It features the same elegant form as the traditional Peace Lily but with glossy, deep green leaves dramatically splashed and streaked with bright white or creamy-white. This bold marbling makes it a highly sought-after indoor feature plant, offering year-round visual interest even when not in flower. It produces the classic spoon-shaped white spathe flowers, but the main appeal lies in the beautiful contrast of its dual-toned leaves. It shares the same hardy, air-purifying qualities and preference for low light as its non-variegated counterpart.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain the crisp white variegation. While it tolerates medium-low light, too little light can cause the white patches to fade and the plant to become primarily green. Protect it from direct sun, which will scorch the leaves.
-
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. The plant will dramatically droop when thirsty, making it easy to know when to water. Use distilled or filtered water if possible, as variegated plants can sometimes be sensitive to tap water chemicals, which may cause brown leaf tips.
-
Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity. Place it in a bathroom, group it with other plants, or use a humidifier during dry periods.
-
Fertilising: Feed monthly during the spring and summer growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
-
Maintenance: Wipe the large leaves with a damp cloth occasionally to remove dust. Remove spent flower stalks by cutting them off near the base of the plant.
-
Toxicity: Note that Peace Lilies are toxic to pets and humans if ingested, so keep them out of reach.
