Alocasia sanderiana ‘Nobilis’ is an exotic and visually spectacular cultivar of the famous Alocasia sanderiana (Kris Plant). It is a smaller, slower-growing variety highly sought after by collectors for its intensely unique foliage. The leaves are typically a very dark, metallic green, featuring a highly elongated, arrow-shaped form with deep, narrow lobes and distinctive, undulating, wavy margins. The overall texture is highly corrugated or crinkled, making the plant look like living armour. This cultivar retains the prominent, silvery-white to light green veins common to the Kris Plant, creating a stunning contrast with the dark leaf colour. It is a true tropical gem requiring stable, high-humidity conditions to thrive indoors.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect light to support its delicate but complex leaf structure. Too much light will bleach the dark colour, while too little will cause leggy growth.

  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during the active growing season (spring and summer), but ensure it is never waterlogged. Allow the very top layer of soil to dry out before watering again. Reduce watering drastically when the plant enters dormancy in winter.

  • Humidity: Essential! This tropical rarity requires very high humidity (70%+ is ideal). Low humidity will quickly cause leaf edges to turn brown, crispy, and curl inwards. Use a humidifier near the plant.

  • Temperature: Must be kept warm (ideally 21°C–29°C). It is extremely sensitive to cold temperatures and draughts.

  • Soil: Use a chunky, very well-draining, and airy potting mix, such as an aroid mix containing orchid bark, charcoal, and perlite.

  • Fertilising: Feed regularly during the warmer months with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser.

  • Dormancy: This plant can go dormant in winter, especially if conditions are cool or dry. If the leaves die back, stop watering and wait for new growth in spring.
