Callistemon ‘Snow Burst’ is a compact, fine-leafed Australian native Bottlebrush cultivar known for its exceptionally tidy, dense, and bushy growth habit. It grows to a manageable size, typically around 80cm to 1 metre tall. Its main feature is the spectacular display of pure white, bottlebrush-shaped flowers that burst forth in spring, often continuing sporadically through the year. The white blooms, which often emerge from shell-pink buds and are tipped with a dusting of lemon yellow, contrast beautifully with the dark green foliage. It’s a low-maintenance, hardy plant, perfect for attracting native birds and bees to the garden.
Care Tips:
- Position: Thrives in full sun to part shade. Full sun encourages the most prolific flowering.
- Soil: Highly adaptable to most soil types, including sandy and even occasionally waterlogged areas, but prefers well-drained soil.
- Watering: Very drought-tolerant once established. Water regularly for the first 8-13 weeks after planting to ensure a strong root system develops.
- Pruning: Low maintenance. It has a naturally neat form and requires little to no pruning. If used as a formal hedge, prune lightly after the main flowering period (in late spring) to encourage a denser habit.
- Fertilising: Does not require heavy feeding. Use a slow-release native plant fertiliser in early spring, following the product’s instructions.
- Tolerances: Excellent tolerance to both light frost and coastal salt spray once established.
