Cordyline fruticosa ‘Tropic Snow’ is a stunning, evergreen tropical shrub, also sometimes known as a Ti Plant. It is primarily grown for its highly decorative foliage. This cultivar produces broad, somewhat arching leaves that are a rich, mid-green colour and heavily splashed and mottled with irregular streaks of creamy white and pale pink. The new growth often emerges with the most vibrant pink tones, creating a refreshing, cool, and tropical aesthetic. ‘Tropic Snow’ has a multi-stemmed, upright growth habit, making it an excellent feature plant for shaded tropical gardens, courtyard borders, or as a striking, colourful houseplant in bright rooms. Unlike some Cordyline varieties, its wide leaves and dense variegation make it stand out.
Care Tips:
-
Position: Outdoors, it prefers a spot with partial shade or dappled light. Indoors, place it in a position with bright, indirect light. Direct, harsh sun will scorch the variegated areas.
-
Climate: Best suited to warm, humid, frost-free, tropical, and subtropical climates. It will not tolerate frost.
-
Soil: Plant in rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter. If potting, use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix.
-
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during the warmer growing season (spring and summer). It dislikes drying out completely. Reduce watering in winter.
-
Fertilising: Feed regularly during the active growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, slow-release or liquid fertiliser to maintain vibrant foliage colour.
-
Maintenance: Remove lower yellowing leaves by pulling them off or cutting them cleanly near the stem. It can be pruned back hard to encourage multiple new shoots and a bushier shape if it becomes too leggy.
