Epipremnum aureum ‘Marble Queen’ is a beautiful, highly variegated cultivar of the popular Pothos or Devil’s Ivy. This plant is celebrated for its lush, heart-shaped leaves that are generously splashed and marbled with shades of white and creamy-yellow against a deep green background. The amount of creamy white variegation is much heavier than in the standard golden Pothos, creating a dazzling, high-contrast effect. Like its parent, ‘Marble Queen’ is a vigorous, low-maintenance, and forgiving plant that can be grown as a hanging basket specimen or trained to climb a support, making it an excellent choice for adding brightness to any indoor setting.
Care Tips
-
Light: Requires bright, indirect light to maintain its high level of white variegation. If the plant is kept in low light, the white areas may start to revert to green, as the white parts lack chlorophyll. Avoid direct sun, which will scorch the pale areas.
-
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. The leaves will start to slightly droop when the plant is ready for a drink. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems.
-
Temperature: Thrives in average room temperatures (18°C–25°C). It is sensitive to cold draughts.
-
Soil: Use a standard, well-draining potting mix.
-
Fertilising: Feed once a month during the active growing season (spring and summer) with a half-strength, balanced liquid fertiliser.
-
Maintenance: Prune long, leggy stems to encourage bushier growth. The cuttings are easy to propagate in water or soil.
