• Water deeply but infrequently once established, allowing soil to dry between waterings. Young plants need regular moisture for the first growing season.
• Plant in well-draining native soil mix or add coarse sand to heavy clay soils. Avoid rich, fertilised soils which can promote excessive leaf growth at expense of fruiting.
• Maintain consistent temperatures above 5°C, protecting from frost in cooler regions. Mulch around the base to regulate soil temperature and moisture.

• Scale insects may attach to stems and leaves, causing yellowing and stunted growth. Remove with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap applied weekly until cleared.
• Root rot can develop in poorly draining soils, especially during wet periods. Ensure excellent drainage and reduce watering frequency if soil remains soggy.
• Native borers occasionally target stressed plants, creating small holes in branches. Maintain plant health through proper watering and mulching to prevent infestations.
