Acacia Floribunda

• Native to eastern Australia, particularly New South Wales and Queensland coastal regions. Naturally grows in open forests and woodland areas on well-drained slopes.
• Fast-growing evergreen shrub or small tree reaching 3-6 metres tall with graceful arching branches. Features narrow, blue-green phyllodes instead of true leaves.
• Beloved for its spectacular spring flowering display of fragrant golden ball-shaped blooms. Creates excellent habitat and food source for native wildlife including birds and butterflies.
• Extremely drought tolerant once established and thrives in poor soils where other plants struggle. Perfect choice for low-maintenance native gardens and water-wise landscaping.

• Water deeply once or twice weekly during establishment, then reduce to monthly watering or rely on rainfall once established. Check soil moisture before watering.
• Position in full sun for maximum flowering, though tolerates light afternoon shade in hot inland areas. Needs at least 6 hours direct sunlight daily.
• Plant in sandy, loamy, or gravelly soil with excellent drainage. Avoid heavy clay, waterlogged areas, or soils high in phosphorus.
• Feed with low-phosphorus native plant fertiliser once in early spring. Avoid regular fertilising as acacias prefer nutrient-poor conditions.
• Prune lightly after flowering finishes in late spring to maintain shape. Remove only soft new growth and spent flowers.
• Requires minimal humidity and thrives in dry Australian conditions. No special humidity requirements needed.
• Mulch around base with organic matter in spring, keeping mulch away from trunk to prevent collar rot.

• Provide full sun to light shade for best flowering performance and healthy growth. Morning sun with some afternoon protection works well in extremely hot climates.
• Water deeply but infrequently once established, allowing soil to dry between waterings. Newly planted specimens need regular water for the first year.
• Plant in well-draining soil and avoid heavy clay or waterlogged conditions. Sandy or loamy soils with good drainage are ideal.
• Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth. Avoid heavy pruning as acacias don't regenerate well from old wood.
• Apply native plant fertiliser sparingly in spring, as acacias prefer low-nutrient conditions and can be damaged by excess phosphorus.

• Scale insects can attach to branches and leaves, causing yellowing and weakening of the plant. Treat with horticultural oil or systemic insecticide applied according to label directions.
• Root rot may occur in poorly drained soils or with overwatering. Ensure excellent drainage and reduce watering frequency if soil remains soggy.
• Aphids sometimes cluster on new growth tips during spring flush. Spray off with strong water jet or apply insecticidal soap for persistent infestations.
• Dieback can affect stressed plants in unsuitable locations. Plant in well-draining soil with good air circulation and avoid overwatering.
