Jacaranda Mimosifolia

• Native to South America, particularly Argentina and Bolivia, but widely naturalised throughout subtropical Australia. Introduced in the 1800s and now iconic in many Australian cities.
• Famous for its spectacular purple-blue flower display that occurs before the new leaves emerge in spring. The flowers attract native birds and create stunning purple carpets when they fall.
• Can live for over 100 years and grows into a broad, spreading canopy tree. The delicate bipinnate leaves provide beautiful dappled shade in summer.
• Beloved by Australians for its reliable spring flowering display and drought tolerance once established. Often planted as commemorative or street trees.

• Water deeply once or twice weekly in first two years, then rely on rainfall once established. Check soil moisture 10cm down before watering.
• Plant in full sun position for maximum flowering, with protection from strong winds. Morning sun is essential for flower development.
• Requires well-draining soil, preferably slightly acidic to neutral pH. Add compost when planting but avoid heavy clay or waterlogged areas.
