Agave Parryi

• Native to high-altitude regions of Arizona and New Mexico, adapted to harsh mountain conditions with extreme temperature swings.
• Forms stunning symmetrical rosettes reaching 60cm wide with thick, blue-grey leaves edged in prominent red spines.
• Extremely drought tolerant once established, storing water in succulent leaves for extended dry periods.
• Takes 15-20 years to flower, producing a spectacular tall flower spike before the main plant dies, leaving offsets to continue growing.

• Water only when soil is completely dry, typically every 2-3 weeks in summer, monthly or less in winter.
• Position in full sun location with at least 6 hours direct sunlight daily for optimal growth and colouration.
• Use cactus and succulent potting mix or add coarse sand to regular potting mix for excellent drainage.
• Feed with low-nitrogen liquid fertiliser diluted to quarter strength 2-3 times during growing season only.
• Remove dead or damaged leaves by cutting cleanly at the base with sterilised secateurs.
• Maintain low humidity and ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal issues.
• Reduce watering significantly in winter and protect from prolonged wet weather in outdoor plantings.

• Provide full sun exposure for best colouration and compact growth habit. Morning sun with afternoon protection acceptable in extreme heat.
• Water deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to completely dry between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during winter months.
• Plant in well-draining, sandy or gravelly soil with excellent drainage. Add coarse sand or perlite to heavy soils.
• Tolerates temperatures down to -10°C, making it suitable for most Australian climates. Protect from prolonged wet conditions in winter.

• Scale insects may attach to leaf bases - remove with alcohol-soaked cotton swabs or apply horticultural oil spray. Check regularly during warm months.
• Root rot from overwatering causes brown, mushy roots and yellowing leaves. Reduce watering immediately and improve drainage.
• Mealybugs appear as white, cottony masses in leaf crevices. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil applications.
• Fungal issues develop in humid conditions with poor air circulation. Ensure adequate spacing and avoid overhead watering.
