Angophora Costata (Smooth Barked Apple)

• Native to eastern Australia, naturally occurring from Queensland to Victoria in coastal and inland areas. Grows in eucalyptus forests and woodland communities.
• The smooth bark is the tree's most distinctive feature, shedding annually in thin sheets to reveal beautiful pink, orange, and cream colours underneath.
• Mature trees can live for over 100 years and develop a distinctive gnarled, spreading canopy. Often confused with eucalyptus but belongs to a separate genus.
• Flowers attract native bees, birds, and other pollinators, while the seed capsules provide food for parrots and other wildlife.
• Extremely drought tolerant once established, making it perfect for water-wise Australian gardens and rural properties.

• Water weekly during first year, then reduce to monthly deep watering in dry periods. Established trees are highly drought tolerant.
• Plant in full sun position with well-draining soil - avoid clay or waterlogged areas. Sandy loam is ideal.
• Apply native plant fertiliser in early spring, avoiding high phosphorus products. Compost around base annually.
• Prune lightly in late winter to maintain shape and remove dead branches. Avoid heavy pruning which stresses the tree.
• Mulch heavily around root zone but keep mulch away from trunk. This conserves moisture and suppresses weeds.
• Monitor for psyllids and borers, especially during stress periods like drought or after transplanting.

• Provide full sun for best growth and flowering - minimum 6 hours direct sunlight daily. Tolerates partial shade but may become leggy.
