Dieffenbachia Tropical Tiki

• Native to tropical Central and South America, Dieffenbachia varieties have been popular houseplants since Victorian times. The 'Tropical Tiki' cultivar is a modern hybrid bred for enhanced indoor performance.
• Features large, paddle-shaped leaves with distinctive cream and green variegation that resembles traditional Tiki mask patterns. Each leaf develops unique markings as it matures.
• Grows as an upright, bushy plant that can reach 1-1.5 metres indoors with proper care. New leaves emerge from the central crown in a spiral pattern.
• Loved by plant collectors for its reliable growth, air-purifying qualities, and ability to create instant tropical ambience in any room.

• Water weekly during growing season, allowing top layer of soil to dry between waterings. Reduce to fortnightly in winter when growth slows.
• Position in bright, indirect light away from direct sun which can burn variegated foliage. North or east-facing windows are ideal.
• Use well-draining potting mix enriched with compost. Ensure pots have drainage holes to prevent waterlogging and root rot.
• Feed monthly with liquid fertiliser during spring and summer. Reduce to every 6-8 weeks during cooler months.
• Wipe leaves monthly with damp cloth to remove dust and maintain glossy appearance. This also helps prevent pest problems.
• Maintain humidity above 50% using humidity trays or grouping with other tropical plants, especially important during dry Australian winters.

• Provide bright, indirect light near a north or east-facing window. Direct sunlight will scorch the variegated leaves and fade the tropical patterns.
• Water when top 2cm of soil feels dry, typically weekly in summer and fortnightly in winter. Ensure excess water drains completely to prevent root rot.
• Maintain humidity levels of 50-60% by grouping with other plants or using a humidity tray. Mist around the plant but avoid wetting leaves directly.
• Keep temperatures between 18-26°C year-round, protecting from cold drafts and air conditioning vents. Growth slows significantly below 15°C.

• Spider mites can appear in low humidity conditions, causing fine webbing and yellowing leaves. Increase humidity and wipe leaves with damp cloth weekly.
• Overwatering leads to root rot and yellowing lower leaves. Ensure proper drainage and allow soil to dry between waterings.
• Scale insects may attach to stems and leaf undersides, appearing as small brown bumps. Remove with rubbing alcohol on cotton swabs.
• Leaf browning often indicates low humidity or fluoride in tap water. Use filtered water and increase ambient moisture.
