Frangipani Yellow White

• Originally from Central America and the Caribbean, frangipanis have become iconic tropical plants throughout warm Australian regions. The scientific name Plumeria honours French botanist Charles Plumier.
• Produces clusters of 5-petalled waxy flowers from late spring through autumn, with peak blooming in summer. The yellow and white combination creates a classic tropical aesthetic.
• Grows as a small deciduous tree reaching 3-6 metres tall with thick, succulent-like branches and large paddle-shaped leaves. The distinctive branching pattern adds architectural interest even when leafless.
• Beloved for its intensely fragrant flowers that smell strongest in evening hours, making it perfect near outdoor entertaining areas. The blooms are long-lasting when cut for indoor arrangements.

• Water weekly during spring and summer growing season, reducing to monthly in autumn and minimal watering in winter dormancy. Check soil moisture by inserting finger 5cm deep.
• Position in full sun location with morning sun essential for flowering, though some afternoon shade acceptable in hottest climates. Indoor plants need brightest possible position.
• Plant in free-draining sandy loam soil or quality potting mix with added perlite for containers. Avoid heavy clay soils that retain moisture.
• Feed monthly with balanced liquid fertiliser during growing season from spring to early autumn. Reduce feeding in winter when plant is dormant.
• Prune lightly after flowering ends to maintain desired size and shape, removing any dead or crossing branches. Always wear gloves when handling due to irritating sap.
• Maintain good air circulation around plant to prevent fungal issues, especially important in humid coastal areas.

• Provide full sun for at least 6 hours daily to encourage prolific flowering and healthy growth. Morning sun with afternoon protection works well in extremely hot climates.
• Water deeply but infrequently during growing season, allowing soil to dry between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter when leaves drop.
• Plant in well-draining soil or potting mix as frangipanis hate wet feet. Sandy loam with good organic content provides ideal conditions.
• Protect from frost and cold winds as temperatures below 5°C can damage branches. Consider container growing in cooler regions for winter protection.
• Prune after flowering to maintain shape and size, as frangipanis flower on new growth. Wear gloves as the milky sap can cause skin irritation.

• Spider mites can attack during hot, dry periods causing yellowing leaves - increase humidity and spray with insecticidal soap. Check undersides of leaves regularly for fine webbing.
• Root rot occurs from overwatering, especially in winter when the plant is dormant - ensure excellent drainage and reduce watering frequency. Yellow, mushy stems indicate root problems.
• Scale insects may appear as small brown bumps on stems and leaves - remove manually or treat with horticultural oil. Regular inspection helps catch infestations early.
