Nematanthus Glabra ‘Gold Fish’

• Originally from the cloud forests of Brazil, this epiphytic plant naturally grows on trees in high humidity environments. It belongs to the gesneriad family, related to African violets and gloxinias.
• The distinctive orange flowers bloom continuously in good conditions, emerging from leaf joints along trailing stems. Each flower truly resembles a tiny goldfish with its pouched shape and bright colour.
• Glossy, succulent-like leaves store moisture and create an attractive backdrop to the vibrant blooms. The trailing habit makes it perfect for hanging displays or shelf edges.
• Collectors love this plant for its unique flowering display and relatively easy care requirements compared to other tropical bloomers.

• Water when top 2-3cm of soil is dry, approximately every 7-10 days in growing season, less in winter. Use lukewarm water and avoid wetting foliage directly.
• Position in bright, filtered light away from harsh afternoon sun - morning sun is beneficial. Rotate weekly for even growth.

• Provide bright, indirect light near an east or north-facing window - avoid direct afternoon sun which can scorch leaves. Supplement with grow lights during darker winter months.
• Water when top inch of soil feels dry, maintaining consistent moisture without waterlogging. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows naturally.
• Maintain humidity levels of 50-60% using humidity trays, grouping with other plants, or a room humidifier. Mist around but not directly on the plant.
• Keep temperatures between 18-24°C year-round, protecting from cold drafts and air conditioning vents. Avoid temperatures below 15°C which can cause leaf drop.
• Pinch growing tips regularly to encourage bushy growth and more flowering points throughout the growing season.

• Aphids and spider mites can attack during dry conditions - spray with insecticidal soap or neem oil weekly until cleared. Increase humidity around the plant to prevent future infestations.
