• Native to South America, Portulaca has naturalised across warm regions worldwide including Australia. Also known as Moss Rose or Sun Plant.
• Succulent stems and leaves store water, making them extremely drought tolerant once established. Flowers come in vibrant shades of pink, red, orange, yellow, and white.
• Low-growing spreading habit makes them ideal ground covers for difficult spots. They readily self-seed, creating natural drifts of colour.
• Flowers open only in bright sunlight, closing during cloudy weather and at night, earning the nickname 'eleven o'clock flower'.

• Water deeply but infrequently, only when soil is completely dry. Overwatering is the most common cause of failure.
• Position in full sun locations receiving at least 6 hours direct sunlight daily. Shade reduces flowering significantly.
• Plant in well-draining sandy or gravelly soil with good drainage. Amend heavy soils with coarse sand or gravel.
• Feed lightly with dilute liquid fertiliser monthly during growing season. Too much fertiliser reduces flowering.
• Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage continuous flowering from spring through autumn.
• Allow plants to self-seed for natural spreading, or collect seeds for next season's planting.
