Thuja Morgan

• Thuja Morgan is a compact evergreen conifer with naturally dense, pyramidal growth habit. It develops rich green, scale-like foliage that provides excellent year-round colour and texture.
• This cultivar is prized for its exceptional hardiness and adaptability to various Australian growing conditions. It tolerates both drought and cold better than many other conifers.
• Originally developed for its superior hedge-forming qualities, Thuja Morgan maintains consistent growth and rarely develops bare patches. It responds well to regular trimming while maintaining its natural beauty.

• Water deeply once or twice weekly during establishment, then reduce to fortnightly in summer and monthly in winter. Check soil moisture 5cm down before watering.
• Position in full sun to partial shade locations with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Protect from strong winds in exposed positions.
• Plant in well-draining soil enriched with compost. Heavy clay soils should be amended with coarse sand and organic matter.
• Feed with slow-release native plant fertiliser in early spring and autumn. Avoid high-phosphorus fertilisers which can damage roots.
• Prune lightly in late winter to early spring before new growth begins. Shape hedges 2-3 times during growing season for density.
• Mulch around base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from trunk. No special humidity requirements needed.

• Plant in full sun to partial shade for optimal growth and dense foliage development. Morning sun with afternoon protection works well in hot Australian climates.
• Water deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry between waterings. Established plants are quite drought tolerant.
• Apply slow-release fertiliser in early spring and again in autumn. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers which can cause soft growth.
• Prune lightly in late winter to maintain shape and encourage dense growth. Avoid cutting into old wood as it may not regenerate.

• Spider mites can cause yellowing foliage in hot, dry conditions. Increase humidity and apply miticide spray during cooler parts of the day.
• Fungal diseases may develop in poorly drained soils or humid conditions. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering.
• Scale insects can attach to branches causing yellowing and stunted growth. Remove manually or treat with horticultural oil.
• Root rot occurs in waterlogged soils. Improve drainage and reduce watering frequency in heavy clay soils.
