Xanthorrhoea Johnsonii - E (31-40cm Trunk)

• Native to Queensland and northern New South Wales, this species thrives in Australia's harsh climate conditions. It's one of the most cold-hardy grass tree species available.
• The trunk grows extremely slowly, taking decades to reach this 31-40cm size, making it a valuable investment plant. Each plant represents many years of careful nursery cultivation.
• Produces spectacular white flower spikes up to 3 metres tall that attract native birds and insects. These dramatic blooms often appear after bushfires or stress events.

• Water deeply every 2-3 weeks in summer, monthly in winter - always check soil is completely dry first. Overwatering is the quickest way to kill these plants.
• Position in full sun with at least 6 hours direct sunlight daily for best growth and flowering potential. Can tolerate light shade but growth will be slower.
• Plant in sandy, well-draining soil or add coarse sand and gravel to improve drainage. Never plant in heavy clay or water-retentive soils.
• No fertilising required - these plants prefer poor soils and excess nutrients can cause soft growth and poor flowering.
• Remove only dead or damaged foliage at the base - never cut the growing crown or healthy leaves. Pruning can seriously damage the plant.
• Protect from strong winds when first planted but established plants are very wind tolerant. Mulch lightly around base but keep clear of trunk.

• Provide full sun to light shade for optimal growth and flowering - at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily produces the best results.
• Water deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings - established plants are extremely drought tolerant. Reduce watering significantly in winter months.
• Plant in very well-draining, sandy soil with excellent drainage - heavy clay soils will cause root rot. Add coarse sand, gravel or raised beds if necessary.
• Avoid fertilising as these plants prefer nutrient-poor soils - excess nutrients can actually harm growth and reduce flowering.
• Be patient with growth as these plants develop very slowly, adding only a few centimetres per year to trunk height.

• Scale insects can attach to the trunk and foliage - treat with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap applied thoroughly. Remove affected areas and improve air circulation around the plant.
• Root rot from overwatering is the most common killer - ensure excellent drainage and reduce watering frequency. Check soil moisture before watering and never let water pool around the base.
• Leaf browning from too much shade or poor air circulation - relocate to a sunnier, more open position. Trim away any dead or damaged foliage at the base.
• Slow decline often indicates poor soil drainage or root disturbance - avoid digging around the root zone and improve soil structure with coarse sand or gravel.
